It’s lunchtime on a weekday, and you’re scrolling through Instagram and feeling like shit. Everyone else seems to have their branding entirely nailed, and you feel like you’re flinging ideas at the wall and hoping they stick.

You want to do some kind of branding training because all those perky women with rich girl hair who look like Cindy Crawford in the 90s keep telling you that’s what you need to do but you don’t have the time or the budget. Plus there are thousands of perky women with rich girl hair who look like Cindy Crawford in the 90s spruiking these courses. How the hell are you supposed to know which one to pick?

Don’t stress petal. We can solve your business woes right now.

All you need to know is your brand archetype. The over-arching personality of your brand and what it is you want to communicate with your customers.

There are 12 different Brand Archetypes. Nurturer, Badass, Alchemist, Pure Heart, Adventuress, Girl Next Door, Heroine, Mischief Maker, Lover, Sage, Queen and Creatress.

But which archetype are you? Let’s take a closer look at The Creatress archetype. You’re probably a Creatress if these are true for you.

1. When people try to plan things you sit there thinking ‘Shut up! Let’s just do it!’

The Creatreses have a LOT of energy, and they like to channel it in the form of actions. That’s the polite way of saying The Creatresses are like toddlers who have been told to sit still - not going to happen. If you spend most work meetings tapping your feet and dying inside because everyone insists on asking stupid questions and you just want to get on with it, chances are, you’re The Creatress archetype. You’re happiest when you’re knee-deep in creative mode, with your proverbial sleeves rolled and your hands covered in theoretical glue. Getting involved in the creative process is like chocolate for you. Some people like to plan the painting of a wall and check out all the colour samples, but The Creatress is all ‘Gimme a paint brush! Let’s do this!’.

2. If you’re sitting at a table at a restaurant, there’s a 90% chance your napkin will be art by the time you leave

The Creatress archetypes are straight up fidgeters. You’re the type of person who can’t sit in front of a burning candle at a dinner party without poking at the wax to make melt in an aesthetically pleasing way or burning bits of food to see what shapes they make. If you’ve ever built a log cabin out of straws at a backyard BBQ, made a tower out of empty beer cans, turned your napkin into a lotus flower or cut your child’s sandwich into star shapes, you’re most likely The Creatress archetype. Other Creatress archetype quirks include drawing pictures in the sand when you’re at the beach, ripping leaves into different shapes when you’re at a picnic or creating fabulous hairstyles whenever someone with long hair sits next to you for too long.

3. You’re not great at finances/spreadsheets/admin because SQUIRREL!

This doesn’t mean that your finances/spreadsheets/admin are in disarray BUT you kind of hate that style of work with every fibre of your being. The Creatress archetypes are actually very good at getting everything done, but anything tedious/hard/not covered with glitter is not enjoyable to The Creatress-type so procrastination and feet dragging is something you need to be aware of mainly if what you’re doing is not creative at all. Like moving numbers from one column to another column. The Creatresses are likely to sit down, ready to do their taxes and they blink and find themselves in the middle of the room surrounded by magazines, glue and scissors because they had an uncontrollable urge to make a collage. Sound familiar?

4. Speaking of squirrels, your focus levels might need some work

I’m not talking about focusing on tedious tasks - most people struggle with that. The Creatresses have a more significant challenge than that. Concentrating on stuff they actually enjoy. Let’s say you’re a personal trainer, but you’re a Creative archetype. You decide to launch an exercise app with a monthly subscription. You’re halfway through working on it, and then you think ‘Actually let's do a recipe app instead!’ and then you abandon the fitness app idea and turn to the recipe app idea. Halfway through the recipe app idea, you decide to do a lifestyle coaching app instead, so you get started working on that - in a years time, you have three unfinished projects. Does this sound like you? Advice? Start a Not For Now list and every time you have a new idea, but you’re already working on something else, or you don’t have the time or the budget for it right now, pop it on your Not For Now list. You can come back to it later.

5. You like things to be perfect, but you also want to skip the planning stage

The Creatress archetypes like to jump into things head first. It’s actually one of your best qualities because you get shit done. The thing is, with Creatresses they want things to be perfect but they also like to jump in and start things before they’ve planned anything. This means issues pop up often for The Creatresses and when they do, Creatresses will abandon their projects because they’re not perfect and will move on to something else. Our tip to remedy this? Outsource your planning or at least get a planning consultant. Before you go ahead with a project for your business ask a sensible person (preferably a Sage archetype) what they think of your plan and if they can see any issues that might arise from this plan. That way you’ll save yourself heaps of time and heartache, locating a problem BEFORE you’ve spent thousands of dollars getting your book printed and then realising it doesn’t fit in ANY standard postbags and you have you to get them custom made. That’s a true story by the way.
