Basically, an archetype is an element of the human experience that’s so universal, we all relate to it without even thinking.

These archetypes are deeply embedded in our psyches – so much so that we’re often not even aware that they’re influencing our thoughts and feelings.

That’s when you consciously anchor your brand to one of these deeply embedded universal themes.

AND WHY (THE HECK) WOULD WE DO THAT?

Well, when your brand is in alignment with who you are as a person – i.e. your true archetype – your business starts generating momentum and attracting customers on a level that previously seemed unattainable.

It’s also a way to get your brand to do all the heavy lifting for you – so that you can show up as your true self, and start making the kind of impact (and income) you want, without feeling like you’re pushing a big-ass boulder uphill.

Your archetype does not define or limit you. Rather, it’s a lens that can help you better understand yourself and the people who are attracted to you and your work.

It can also help you avoid common challenges that may crop up, and help you feel less alone in your struggles.

There are HEAPS of different archetypes.

More than 60 in fact. But broadly speaking, they can be broken into 12 ‘families’ – The Adventuress, The Mischief Maker, The Lover, The Sage, The Alchemist, The Creatress, The Girl Next Door, The Queen, The Badass, The Heroine, The Pure Heart, and (of course) The Nurturer.

In fact, most of us do. You’ll usually have one main archetype that serves as your primary category, then some secondary and tertiary ones. We’ll be delving into your primary archetype today.

YOU’RE BRILLIANT AT CARING FOR OTHERS, BUT CAN STRUGGLE WITH CARING FOR YOURSELF!

Self-care isn’t selfish, and it’s okay to take time off to nurture yourself.

Even little acts – like doing your bookkeeping at your favourite café, or treating yourself to a DIY pedicure after you empty your inbox – can make all the difference to how you feel day to day.

BOUNDARIES CAN BE TRICKY…

Sometimes you don’t respect your own boundaries, and say ‘yes’ when you really mean ‘no’. This can result in all your powerful healing energy pouring outwards all the time, leaving you feeling empty and depleted.

Other times, it’s clients who don’t respect your boundaries. After all, your energy is pretty spesh… and some will be pushy, or over-rely on you to get their fix.

TO MINIMISE THIS ISSUE:

  • Know that YOU teach others how to treat you.
    If you don’t respect your own boundaries, your clients won’t either.

  • Clear communication is essential.
    It can feel scary to set rules and parameters, but YOU’RE the business owner and YOU are in charge. So remove your emotion from the situation and state your boundaries calmly and clearly. (And then state them again… and again if needed!)

  • Practise saying no.
    This is a skill that needs to be practiced. Start small, build your way up, and before you know it, you’ll be a total ‘no ninja’. (Your energy levels will thank you!)

YOUR HEART IS ENORMOUS AND OH-SO-GENEROUS. IT’S YOUR BEST ASSET.

But making decisions from the heart can occasionally get you into trouble.

To avoid getting too emotional (and failing to factor in other considerations), try to give yourself extra space around any big decisions.

(You, my dear Nurturer, are the kind of starry-eyed cupcake for whom ‘sleeping on it’ is always a good decision-making tactic.)

What this means for you:

  • Be encouraging, uplifting and open-minded (rather than taking the ‘my way or the highway’ route).

  • Lead by example. Show your audience what’s possible by living your message.

  • Don’t be afraid to get real with them; to show them ‘behind the scenes’. (Not always a shining beacon of health? This can be a powerful message to share with your readers.)

  • It’s okay to be yourself in everything you do, because the right people will find that irresistible. (And those that don’t probably aren’t a great fit for you anyway.)

A massive part of branding is how your customers feel whenever they interact with you – whether that’s through a random email, a visit to your website, or as a paying customer.

As a Nurturer, the people who are attracted to you want to feel cared for and nurtured. So do everything you can to make the customer experience feel as soothing and nourishing as possible.

THIS COULD INCLUDE THINGS LIKE:

Personalise as many of your customer interactions as you can – use their name, take note of personal details, show that you care.

Try sending a small gift and handwritten note to your clients when you wrap up a project together – something that’s aligned with your healing message (like a deck of oracle cards, an organic soap, or some yummy raw vegan chocolates).

Consider sending out an extra little surprise on special occasions – for client birthdays, for Christmas… or just because.

Make your processes as simple and straightforward as possible, so your customers don’t even have to thinkabout things. (For example, you could send a friendly reminder text the day before appointments, or you could set up a subscription system for your products so your clients never run out.)
