How to Put Together Your Content for a Killer One Pager

One-page websites are a great way to get a website up FAST, so you can concentrate on getting work in the door while you build out the rest of your platform. Your One Page Website has to work HARD though, it has to do all the storytelling for your business and brand, gather opt-ins and get enquiries through the door. Our Flourish Online website is built in the One Page format and includes all the necessary elements needed to enable you to make a big splash. Let’s have a look at the page and our One Pager Template in detail.

1) Logo and Menu

Research shows us that when using a one-page formula, there are a few basics we need to stick to.  Simple Navigation, a logo placed in the top left-hand corner are two of these basics.  Always have the menu item you want them to click on MOST at the far right of the screen as this is where the eye will rest.In a one page website, we build the site so that the menu tabs link to different sections of the homepage.  Once you have built out your other pages, you can change the links to point to actual pages.

What you need:

  • Your logo

  • Items listed for your menu.

2)  Banner real estate

The main banner section of your site is where we communicate your USP (Unique Service Proposition).  In other words, how are you different?Don’t waste your space here with a slider, and other vanity content.  We need to condense the most important part of your business into one quick takeaway and action to move on.You might be thinking - shouldn’t I have an optin here? I see a lot of people doing this.   Well, that all depends.  Do you want people coming to your website and getting immediately distracted from your core selling point?  Or would you like for them to get hooked on your unique difference, and then opt in?  (The answer my friend, is the latter).

Examples of USPs + Calls to action:

Website Company:  We make websites that convert 90% more effectively than the rest.  CTA:  Get started on your website now.Naturopath:  Naturopathy and Massage with a French Twist.  CTA: Oui! Book Your First Session.Virtual Assistant:  Ontraport Certified VA’s dedicated to YOUR business growth.  CTA:  Book a discover callCopywriter:  Website Copy that doesn’t suck.  CTA:  Send me your price list, damnit!

What you need to provide:

  • Your USP heading copy.

  • One or two sentences explaining yourself.

  • Button Text (ie GET IT NOW)

3)  A credibility builder

We’ve made some pretty big claims in the banner area, now it's time to back it up.  At this point, we need either a short testimonial or some logos of clients you have worked with or systems you are certified in.

What you need to provide:

  • Heading Text

  • Logos or a testimonial (with a photo if possible).

4)  A small opt-in.

Now we invite people to optin (or leave it to later - we prefer to leave ours to the end of the page so that we try and eliminate tyre kickers as much as possible and get better value optins who have actually read what we offer before opting in). This small optin is a condensed version of what you will offer at the bottom of the page, and it should tie into your USP.  And keep it simple.  You’ll want to test out your optins over time, so don’t waste time on creating a 30page ebook before you have tested whether or not that content is desired by your audience.

Example of optin content: Getting started with Ontraport?  Get our list of 10 awesome integrations our business couldn’t go without.  (Button:  Get it now).

What you need to provide:

  • OPtin heading

  • OPtin body text

  • Button Copy

  • Thank you message or URL to your thank you page.

5)  An about section

Tell us who you are, who you work with, what results you can deliver.

What you need to provide:

  • Heading Text

  • A paragraph of copy, approx 100 words.

6)  Your Offers

How can people work with you?  We recommend having three tiers of offers.  When people buy a service online, they want an idea of how they can work with you.  If you are starting out, this is especially important.  Once you have the experience, testimonials and word of mouth you can tailor your offerings more to individuals, but trust us on this.  Having some easy to understand, easy to sell offers will help you to get more clients in the door, early on.

What you need to provide:

  • Heading

  • Short intro paragraph

  • Offer info (the short version) in three tiers. If you have an optin to get package information, we need the HTML code to your optin list.  Since this is a one page website we won't link these buttons to other pages (unless you have them set up on leadpages, ontrapages etc) but you can always do this yourself in the future.  In the meantime, we can link them to an optin pop up or an email address, or to the contact form at the bottom of the page.

TIP:  Create a PDF detailing your offerings and get your prospective clients to optin to get send the full info. You're thereby growing your list and providing more information about your service.  If you're smart - you’ll also send them a follow-up nurture sequence.

7)  More credibility.

Depending on your business, you’ll add in more testimonials, a gallery of work for people working in visual fields, logos of places you’ve been featured.

What you need to provide:

  • Heading text

  • Testimonial content (image, copy) x 3 (you can always add more yourself later)

Or

  • More logos

Or

  • Up to 9 gallery images for a portfolio (you can always add more yourself later)

8)  Your main optin

People have read this far!  Let’s get them to opt in!

What you need to provide:

  • Optin heading

  • Optin body text

  • Button Copy

  • Thank you message or URL to your thank you page.

If you are using a free PDF or video series, send is a screenshot of the cover of your product or a screenshot of your video and we will fancy it up into an iPad generated image for you.

9)  Contact form

Time to get your prospective clients to book a session with you!

What you need to provide:

  • Short message for the top of the form.

  • The questions for your contact form.

  • The email address your form should be sent to.

  • Your thank you message (shown with the form is submitted)
